Bill assistance available for qualifying customers

Couple trying to pay bills

Do you or someone you know need help paying your water or wastewater bill? You may qualify for the state of California’s Low Income Household Water Assistance Program, also known as LIHWAP.

LIHWAP offers income-qualifying customers up to $15,000 to help pay off outstanding water or sewer bills, and/or up to $2,000 to pay for future water bills. Customers who are currently receiving support from programs like CalFresh and CalWorks, enrolled in SDG&E’s CARE program, or have gross household income at or below 60% of the state median income should apply now, as funding is expected to run out in March of 2024.

The program is administered by two regional nonprofits that serve our local area. If you live in La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Casa de Oro (91941 zip code) or Mount Helix, contact Campesinos Unidos to apply or call 619-391-9790.

If you live in Spring Valley, Casa de Oro (91977 zip code), El Cajon, Bostonia, Lakeview or Winter Gardens, fill out the eligibility form online at Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee or call 619-349-0123.
