If you have ever wondered what working in the water industry is like, check out these two videos.
Every day, trained water professionals work behind the scenes to keep clean water flowing to our faucets which supports the health, safety and quality of our communities. The videos, made in partnership with the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce, highlight some of the important and rewarding careers available right here in East County.
The first video highlights Helix Water Treatment Plant Operator Dana Magana. She is one of the disitrict’s operators responsible for treating the water on which half a million people depend. You’ll see the water treatment facility, how we treat water, how our staff monitors the process, and why she loves what she does.
The second video highlights Helix Equipment Operator Eddie Gonzalez and explores some of the work our equipment operators do each day. Since most of our water infrastructure, like pipes and valves, is underground, our equipment operators use heavy equipment – including backhoes, dump trucks, excavators and hydro excavators – to dig, access, move and replace infrastructure.
“I love heavy equipment. I get to be a big kid playing with toys all day, digging in the dirt,” said Gonzales. “I love that I am not in the same place every day. It’s an adventure [with] different challenges.”
These are just two of the many roles available to people seeking work within the water industry and looking for great career opportunities right here in East County San Diego.
