WaterSmart Landscape Workshop Series - Register Now!

An investment in a water-efficient landscape will pay big, long-term dividends – a smaller water bill every two months, less maintenance, more living space and higher property value. There’s a lot to learn, which is why we offer a free WaterSmart Landscape Workshop Series taught by a local landscape design professional. The series starts this Saturday, January 14 and you can register for any or all of the workshops.

Workshop #1 – Plan Ahead: Soil and Site Assessment
Learn the step-by-step approach to getting the landscape you want and where to start – with an assessment of your site and your soil.

Workshop Dates:

  • Saturday, January 14 @ 9 a.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Wednesday, February 15 @ 5:30 p.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Saturday, March 18 @ 9 a.m. in person (location TBA).

Workshop #2 – Design: Shape Your Space
Learn how to design a landscape that integrates with and enhances your lifestyle. Think of your landscape as part of your home and design the new rooms you want to have.

Workshop Dates:

  • Saturday, January 21 @ 9 a.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Wednesday, February 22 @ 5:30 p.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Saturday, March 25 @ 9 a.m. in person (location TBA).

Workshop #3 – Plants: Inspiring Choices for Our Region
Learn how to select plants and trees based on how you want your landscape to look and how much water you want to save.

Workshop Dates:

  • Saturday, January 28 @ 9 a.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Wednesday, March 1 @ 5:30 p.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Saturday, April 1 @ 9 a.m. in person (location TBA).

Workshop #4 – Water and Irrigation: Utilizing a Precious Resource
Learn how to retrofit your irrigation system with drip and rotary nozzles, how to set watering times and how to capture rainwater.

Workshop Dates:

  • Saturday, February 12 @ 9 a.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Wednesday, March 8 @ 5:30 p.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Saturday, April 8 @ 9 a.m. in person (location TBA).


Workshop #5 – Installation and Maintenance: Protecting Your Investments
Learn how to remove turf and how to maintain your plants and soil.

Workshop Dates:

  • Saturday, February 11 @ 9 a.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Wednesday, March 15 @ 5:30 p.m. on Zoom.com.
  • Saturday, April 15 @ 9 a.m. in person (location TBA).

If you attend all five workshops, you may qualify for another free program – Designer at Your Door. This is an opportunity to discuss your landscape and plans one on one with a landscape design professional. To qualify for this program, you must be a San Diego County homeowner, be ready to convert existing turf to sustainable landscape, have an in-ground and operational irrigation system, and complete all five WaterSmart Landscape Workshops. 

Note that the WaterSmart Workshop Series begins again on February 15 and March 18.  The free workshops are hosted by the San Diego County Water Authority with funding from the San Diego County Watershed Protection Program.
