District earns excellence award again

Helix's Board President Richard Smith (right) accepts a workplace excellence award from Peter Barron Stark.

During a recent board meeting, Helix Water District accepted the Peter Barron Stark & Associates Award for Workplace Excellence TM. Helix also received this award for 2004 and 2006.

“This 'Best of the Best' category comprises 204 organizations with approximately 74,000 employees surveyed,” said Stark, a consultant who has done employee satisfaction studies for the past 19 years.

Every two years, Helix surveys its workforce to determine workplace satisfaction. Survey results are used by Helix management to assist in creating a positive workplace experience for employees and setting future goals.

“This survey is an independent tool that we use to measure ourselves against other organizations," General Manager Mark S. Weston said. "Our employees take great pride in their work and are outstanding customer service ambassadors. We also
provide superior products to our customer—quality water, community involvement, and public outreach to name only a few.”

Helix Water District provides drinking water to 260,000 customers in La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, El Cajon, a small area of Lakeside, and some of the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Helix uses ozone as its primary disinfectant, creating high quality drinking water for its consumers.
