In wet years, Lake Cuyamaca is an important source of water for the Helix Water District. At this time, it appears as if the lake has more than 4,000 acre-feet of runoff stored for use by District customers. The water is released down Boulder Creek to a diverting dam where Helix's portion is metered and sent down the San Diego River to be stored in El Capitan Reservoir.

This year has given us some spectacular vistas. Photos recently taken (below) by Systems Operations Supervisor Kyle Swanson show the beauty of the snow-crested lake and water plummeting over the diverting dam, frothing through the metering weir, and storming its way toward El Capitan.




Project Suspended
Helix Water District board of directors voted to suspend the El Monte Valley Mining, Reclamation, and Groundwater Recharge Project . The project halt is primarily due to a delay in the availability of advanced treated recycled water and increased project cost.
