In
wet years, Lake Cuyamaca is an important source of water
for the Helix Water District. At this time, it appears
as if the lake has more than 4,000 acre-feet of runoff
stored for use by District customers. The water is released
down Boulder Creek to a diverting dam where Helix's
portion is metered and sent down the San Diego River
to be stored in El Capitan Reservoir.
This
year has given us some spectacular vistas. Photos recently
taken (below) by Systems Operations Supervisor Kyle
Swanson show the beauty of the snow-crested lake and
water plummeting over the diverting dam, frothing through
the metering weir, and storming its way toward El Capitan.
